Because my Interview With The Vampire post was dark, here's something with vampires that's funny. What We Do In The Shadows is one of my favorite movies and for class I made a lip sync animation using one of the lines.

     It’s easy to see how Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is always referenced when discussing gothic literature. Cited as the beginnings of the science-fiction genre, it carries elements of the Gothic and Romantic movements of the era. For example, one of the novels most prominent themes is secrets, which is at the heart of any gothic story. The protagonist, scientist Victor Frankenstein, discovers the secret of bringing inanimate objects to life. He performs his research in the dead of night away from everyone, due to its dubiously ethical nature and ideological conflict with his peers. When he deems the creature he brought to life and abomination, this secret eats away at his mind. "Weird" - A Weird Genre to Talk About

The genre of “weird” is an interesting sub-genre to discuss among fans of horror, fantasy, and sci-fi, since it’s as ambiguous as the monsters it describes. Most weird fiction, I find, deals with the inhuman, creatures beyond the human experience that we can never truly describe. It’s a genre that truly captures the fear of the unknown and what we cannot understand. Because this, the genre tends to be much more image-focused, which makes sense, seeing as our physical senses are what allows us to perceive the world. H.P. Lovecraft, whose work I read for this post, is a master at harnessing that fear in his work. Since the rest of his writing is rather (appropriately) lacking in an understanding of human emotion and interaction, his writing is often considered the foundation for the weird genre. The Hobbit and The Hero's Journey

Tolkien’s renowned work, The Hobbit, reflects several aspects of the classic hero’s journey. In fact, the story can be regarded as a prime example of the journey. At the very beginning, Bilbo Baggins is content with his life at Bag’s End, living the life that every hobbit yearns for: a humble, quiet life with a love for food and drink. However, this is all overhauled when the great wizard Gandalf “convinces” Bilbo to go on an adventure, this story’s “call to action”. Of course, Bilbo turns it down at first until he forced to do so, a common reaction in stories with the hero’s journey structure. As the story continues, the journey continues with Bilbo’s tests and ordeals that challenge his views, culminating into a major character change after the spider attack.
